New EV Program Information

Electric Vehicle Customers Please Note

As you may have noticed, the BC Scrap-it Program has changed significantly since last year. The following is information you need as a customer who has been approved under our program.

  • As stated on our website, we have a limit of 1,000 new and 250 used incentives for 2018.
  • Participating Dealers have been allocated these incentives based on their expected inventory levels for this year (2018) only.
  • Allocating the incentives to the Dealers is intended to make it easier for customers to: (a) find a dealership with available EV inventory, and (b) secure an incentive.
  • Just because you have a SCRAP-IT approval, does not mean you will be guaranteed an incentive.
  • You will only be guaranteed an incentive if you purchase an EV from a Dealer that has allocations available. The Dealers decide which electric vehicles they apply the allocations to.
  • Allocating incentives to the dealerships means that you do not have to apply (and then ask us for extensions over and over again), while you find the EV you want, or wait for inventory to arrive.
  • This is why we have the new policy that no extensions will be given.
  • If your current approval expires before you take delivery of your EV you will have to re-apply, please read the details below.

IMMEDIATE DELIVERY. Procedures for customers buying EVs that are available for immediate delivery:

  1. Review the list of available EVs on our website.
  2. Call or visit the Dealer to confirm the vehicle is still available.
  3. Dealers are not supposed to have vehicles on our list if they are not on the dealership’s lot.
  4. If you find an EV that you want which is available for immediate delivery, and the dealership is guaranteeing you one of their incentives for that car (we suggest you get that in writing), then you can apply to our program.
  5. Do not scrap your old vehicle until you take delivery* of the EV.
  6. You MUST also keep the old vehicle you intend to scrap insured until you apply to our program (the 6 months continuous insurance requirement from the day you apply backwards, must still be met).
  7. Instructions for pre-ordering vehicles are below.

PRE-ORDERING. Procedures for customers who have pre-ordered an EV from a Dealer:

  • Make sure that you are being guaranteed an incentive (please get this in writing).
  • Make sure that the vehicle will be delivered in 2018. Under no circumstances will an incentive be paid to a customer if the vehicle is not registered/transfered into your name (ownership) by December 31, 2018.
  • Do not apply to our program until the dealership confirms that the new EV has arrived in BC.
  • Do not scrap your old vehicle until you take delivery* of the EV.
  • You MUST also keep the old vehicle you intend to scrap insured until you apply to our program (the 6 months continuous insurance requirement from the day you apply backwards, must still be met).
  • Once you receive the approval email you have 30 days to complete the process.
  • We need to receive scrap data before we can issue your cheque.

*Take Delivery means the EV is now registered and insured in your name.
